Backyard Nook
Mar/Apr 2023
Being from Houston, working outside can be brutal depending on the season, but when I started this project in March, the weather had finally softened.
This space had gone untouched for over four years. It wasn’t neglected on purpose, just one of those corners of a home that slowly fades into the background. The new fence was the first real love it had seen in ages, replacing a dated river rock wall and setting the tone for something fresh.
Since the initial transformation, a sun shade has been added above the string lights to temper the morning sun. This side of the house faces east, and the light comes in strong.
Sometimes it doesn’t take much, just a shift in attention and intention to bring a space back to life.

From Brick & Clay to Breathing Room
I always forget to take better before pictures — and I’ve wondered if that takes away from how dramatic the change really is. But even without the perfect shot, trust me: this area was packed with bricks, clay, and heaviness.
It took about three sessions to get it cleared, styled, and softened. And while I didn’t get a final photo with the patio furniture all in place (oops), the transformation is real.
Simple shifts. Big difference.
How would you decorate this little nook?
